PARTICIPATE

There are many ways to participate in Joyce Walks, the simplest being to map out and walk a route. Joyce Walks is first and foremost a participatory walking project which is best experienced on the street. Joyce WalksClick Create a Walk to map a walk in the city of your choice, bring some friends along and make it a social event. The second level of participation is to share your walk by documenting it with photos or videos or drawings - or whatever makes sense to you there is no proscriptive approach - and use the site to create a mashup of your walk to share with others both on the Joyce Walks site and as an embeddable map on any webpage.

Extending Joyce Walks

The technology behind Joyce Walks is not limited to remapping Ulysses but can remap any cultural event that can be expressed spatially. An example of this is the recent Tulca Freedom Trail which remapped the Boston Freedom Trail to Galway for the Tulca Festival of Visual Art . At the moment this is done on an ad hoc basis but we will shortly be extending Joyce Walks so that it will be possible to plug in your own routes either as gpx tracks or kml files to share your routes with all users. For the initial stages of this we are also inviting submissions of routes to be added to Joyce Walks, contact me at conor[at]stunned[dot]org if you are interested in making a route proposal.

An iPhone app version of the Joyce Walks project is now available.
