Saw Sparklehorse last night in the Olympia here in Dublin, again. I was trying to think how many times I've seen him live, I guess it's five or six times. The first time was in VKs in brussels as support for Mazzy Star, way back before vivadixiesub... was even released. I've got to say that normally Sparklehorse are one of the great live acts.
But last night I saw a tired and dramatically off-form Mark perform with just guitar and drum and a terrible mix. I guess he was trying to bring out the raw rock side to the music but it didn't really come off and everything got lost. OK we all have our bad days but I came away with the feeling that there was a guy who should've stayed home and looked after himslf.
