In a recent episode of "Strange Universe", there was a featured "haunting"
story about Seller's Arts and Crafts in Scappoose, OR. The above photo shows
a "vortex" and it's shadow captured on 35mm film - of "Billie". I plan a trip there
soon and hope to bring an EM meter, and a digital camera ...

UPDATE : Well I finally made it to Seller's Arts and Crafts in Scappoose - on a
return trip from Eastern Oregon, past Portland, and of course without a camera or
EM meter ! Turns out it was O.K. since Dave Sellers told me of the number of
inquiries, phone calls, etc. since the episode was shown for the third time ! It was
an interesting visit all in all ...

Oddly enough we talked mostly about what it's like to run a small business in a small
town, working more than 40 hours a week, and never really having any time to take
even a short weekend trip anywhere. I found Dave Sellers to be a genuine person,
and in all respects quite ordinary. I've been around too many conspiracy types, and
paranormal investigators of late - it's nice to converse with 'everyday' people for a
change. Which answers the question some may have ... do the Sellers' family have
any motives ? Since we talked about running a small business, other than some free
publicity couldn't hurt, mostly calls came from very far away, and it seems doubtful
that their business was affected in any way, other than more distractions during work.

Again, seeing that they were ordinary people, in a common situation, I can say that
the presense of 'Billie' has been more disruptive at times than anything else that may
have happened since the interview. They did have a few copies of Dave Oester's
paperback book, of which one ghost story in that book was about them, but other
than that, there were no other mentions, and Dave Sellers seems to not want to talk
much about the paranormal - they are trying to get on with their lives, and their small
business there ...

Interesting that I 'chose' to use a pomeranian dog as a backgound graphic for this
page ... a large one, of the same color now lives there with the cats ... coincidence?

The book mentioned that they installed a 'motion detector' on the stairs to their
upstairs apartment, mainly because some folks wander in, and up the stairs into
their home, without permission, to 'look around'. Yes, Billie has set off the motion
detector alarm on several occasions, and has 'annoyed' one of the cats as well .
The book is available from Dave Oester, in St.Helens ... now for my impressions :

I personally didn't observe anything paranormal while I was there, or did I ? I kept
staring at the back door to the building, for 20 seconds, or so. I seemed to kind of
'space out' - I noticed that the door was open about 4 inches out - a little unusual
for a large glass / metal storefront door, and it was 'bobbing' a little, as if a breeze
was blowing 'out' of the store, yet there was no air flow past me, and with the several
cats and one small dog, the large front doors were closed ...

Later I read that that door was seen to open and close by itself, except I didn't know
that at the time ! Again, I felt nothing, no presence, no coldness, or change in room
temparature, and nothing out of the ordinary. I sent one of my 'spirit guides' to look
around, a 'scout' who helps me find lost things, etc. He told me, psychically, that
there was 'nothing here' - but he tend to localize his comments. Also he added, that
there were 'no spirit guides' there, like him, I inferred ...

I sent him upstairs, and a short time later, came back with nothing again ... "nothing?"
I thought ... his answer, "you mean dead people?". I left it alone at that - he generally
looks for other guides, or higher beings. He neglects to tell me about deceased spirits
since they are literally everywhere, and I never show any interest in them ... particularly
around cemetaries, there are many, so perhaps some there too, like most places ...

Doug Sellers was friendly, and only showed a slight interest in the Internet, and left
me with the impression that he'd rather leave 'ghost hunting' to the experts ... I agree
in that it's not my area either, but enjoyed the visit, and picked up a couple of craft
items on the way out. If anyone is interested in more history there, the Oester book
is excellent, and has many interesting stories from around Oregon here ...

Hello :)

In doing a search on the internet in my hometown, I came across your
page regarding the haunting at Sellers Arts & Crafts in Scappoose, OR.
I just thought I would let you know that they are going out of business
(by choice, from what I hear) and are trying to sell all their inventory
and get out and on with their lives. I am not sure if the hauntings
have anything to do with this, but I figured it would be an update to
your wonderful story. I know Dave Sellers personally ( we own the
business in the building directly next door ) and we have had our share
of very minoute bizarre occurances in the past year as well, but nothing
too major to mention. Again, I just felt the need to update you on the
circumstances with Seller's and we all are curious as to the status of
the office after he (they) depart.

Please feel free to write back if you have any questions.

UPDATE : July 2000 - the building is still vacant, but not unoccupied ;-)

On a different subject, I am waiting to hear from Dave Oester concerning another
haunting here on the Oregon Coast - when more information becomes available
I will post furthur details - I can say now that the new owner does NOT believe his
property is haunted ... perhaps he doesn't think it's an asset ... more to come.

UPDATE : The owner of the Liberty theatre in Astoria ( below ) has been contacted
by Dave Oester re : film and TV crews doing a documentary there ... more to come !

Some of The SPYder Web users are 'into' ghost photography. So
are the people at the Cosmic Society ( http://www.cosmicsociety.com ). Last
summer I persued some information regarding film emulsions useful for those
special pictures. Some claim infra-red is the most useful, for it's 'heat sensing'
abilities. My experience with B & W sheet film for Kirlian Photography revealed
most 'activity' was in the UV area for corona discharge. Leading UFOlogists also
concede that the UV end of the light spectrum is the place to look. Wondering if
any special films exist, which would be better to use, I contacted Kodak. My exp-
erience with sheet negative film directly exposed was confirmed :

All of our emulsions are sensitive down to 250nm, so there would not be a
specific film that we would manufacture for ultraviolet photography.
However, as most lenses block uv, it would be suggested to obtain a quartz
lens to take full advantage of the sensitivity of the film.
