My flickr set of scans of old National Geographic magazine I came across with the original report from Sept 1961 on Alan Shepard’s (first American in space) flight on Freedom 7 the first manned Mercury rocket flight on May 5th 1961. There are a few pages missing from the end but it’s pretty cool vintage stuff
