New Scientist has the first image from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN of some of the first protons to be accelerated smashed into an absorbing device called a collimator at near light speed, producing a shower of particle debris recorded in the image. Of course we won’t know if it’s going to end the world for a while yet.
