After a public consultation process for the Carlisle Pier architectural competition in Dun Laoghaire in which the public were asked to vote for their favourite entry – 8000 visitors in a week in a process that was very poorly publicised and too short – the selection panel opted for the third placed (out of four!) and quite frankly awful heneghan.peng proposal. It makes you wonder why go through the charade of public consultation when you’re not going to listen? Still here we go again once again the council will have to be stopped in their determined plan to destroy the waterfront in Dun Laoghaire. Curiously the page which showed all four entries has now been removed from the Dun Laoghaire Harbour website, hmmm.

Tomorrow there are a number of antiwar events in Dublin to commemorate the first anniversary of the war in Iraq at 11.30 the names of the dead will be read out at the US embassy and at 3.30 there’ll be an antiwar march from the garden of remembrance.
