The Shortlist for the competition to redevelop the Carlisle Pier in Dun Laoghaire will go on exhibition in the Ferry Terminal from Jan 30th – Feb 8th.

The programme for the Dublin film festival is announced, 97 films in ten days starting Feb 12th, booking now open.

Bizarrely the USA is against the World Health Organizations’ plan to fight the worldwide obesity epidemic. The plan calls for people to limit their sugar and fat intake, and it recommends restrictions on food advertising to children. It also advises that countries should use taxes and subsidies to reduce the price of healthy foods.

The Tate was famously offered, and refused, the Bacon gallery by John Edwards who then gave it to the Municipal gallery in Dublin a refusal which was seen as yet another snub to Bacon from the British art establishment. It turns out that Photoshop’s anti-forgery tactics -that prevent you opening scanned banknotes – ain’t going to stop any real forgers but it’s doing a good job of alienating it’s customers. Still we should be used to it it’s not the first time they’ve used big brother tactics
